Pendragon: Sword of His Father – Journey Behind the Scenes
Authors: Sara and Shannon Burns
Review written by Shad at GodHonoringMovies.com.
I was recently given a copy of this book by a friend, and I found it to be very inspiring and creative, giving me a new perspective on the film. For those of you who don’t know the story of Pendragon: Sword of his Father:
“Pendragon is set in Britain’s Dark Ages, as the Legions are leaving to defend Rome and the Saxon barbarians are invading. The film is the compelling story of a young man who faces the reality of an army ravaging his homeland. As the story unfolds, Artos encounters increasingly difficult challenges – the death of his family, defeat on the battle field, betrayal by his commander, and the loss of the girl he loves. Through it all he clings to one truth: Artos believes that what God calls men to do, He gives them the grace to accomplish.”
Rather than being written only by one or two authors, a majority of Journey Behind the Scenes is written by the cast and crew, making it a very interesting read. In their own words, they describe the trials, hardships, blessings, providences, and all the fun that was shared. Is it possible to make believable movie props out of old coat hangers, cereal boxes, rubber mats, and children’s toys? Their creativeness and ingenuity will surprise you. 106 full-color pages, size 5½ by 8½, with about 300 photos!
“Step into the magical world of filmmaking…
Read the story of how God brought two Christian homeschool families together to complete a first-of-its-kind Christian film. Experience the crew’s passion to impact lives for Christ with our generation’s most powerful medium – film. Learn movie-marketing secrets from exclusive interviews with cast and crew, and enjoy hundreds of newly released photos. With this book, we invite you to join us on a Journey Behind the Scenes of Pendragon.”

My favorite part about this book comes from a filmmaker’s perspective. Clothing four hundred extras with armor and weapons is no easy task, especially when you don’t have an unlimited amount of capital. But they pulled it off with a budget under $100,000!
The quality of this book met all my expectations except one…It’s small. “…there are many stories yet to tell…” Beautiful graphics and layout.. If you have enjoyed the movie, or if you are interested in filmmaking, this book will inspire.

I’ll have to get the book.
I’ve been watching the movie a lot lately, and have noticed the many extras who had to be costumed and/or armored, and the choreographed.
